Presentation 1:  1:30 pm to 2:30 pm

SCLO foreclosure attorney, Clara Padilla-Silver

will present on “What is a Reverse Mortgage?”

She will outline how a reverse mortgage works.  Seniors will become more aware of risk factors contained in reverse mortgages regarding payment options, defaults, paybacks and pay offs of existing mortgages.  Predatory lender cautions will be discussed.

Presentation 2:  4pm to 5 pm

SCLO Executive Director and Attorney, Ellen Leitzer

will present on “Who Pays for Nursing Home Care and Will My Spouse Become Impoverished if I Go into a Nursing Home?”

This workshop will focus on government programs that pay for nursing facility care, permissible and impermissible transfers of assets to qualify for Medicaid benefits, and how to prevent the impoverishment of the spouse who remains in the community when the other spouse requires long-term care.  Related Medicaid community-waiver programs will also be discussed. [There will be a brief discussion on SSA’s Pickle Amendment.]
